SRI SOOLINI DURGA.

Sri Durga, the Supreme warrior Goddess, out of all the manifestations of Lord Shiva, specially liked and adored the form of Sri Sarabeswara and became His consort. Durga Sahasranama bears ample testimony to this fact. Being herself a great warrior, no wonder, she liked the most valiant Sri Sarabeswara - the greatest of all the warriors, who subdued the invincible Lord Narasimha. Sri Soolini Durga has an awesome pose. Her face, even though in a smiling pose, it makes the enemies of her devotees fear. She is seated on a lion. Lion is considered as the bravest of all the animals. Seating on a lion is possible only after conquering the animal. She has eight hands. The right four hands are adorned with Trisul, knife, chakra and an arrow. The left four hands are adorned with Dhanus (Bow), Sankam (conch), Gadha, and Paasam.All these weapons are very severe weapons. By using all these weapons she gives the best protection to her devotees. We can easily overcome the problems caused by the enemies and planets by simply praying her. We have to light lamps with wick and mustard oil to get her fullest blessings. There is no Temple in the entire USA having Sri.Soolini Durga as one of the deity. As Swamiji is a scholar of Atharva Veda he has realized the benefits of Sri.Soolini Durga and has established Sri.Soolini Durga’s statue. This statue is established after energizing the statue by chanting the moola mantra nearly for 400,000 thousand times. We can feel the energy by simply standing in front of the deity.

We have special poojas for Soolini Durga. Daily evening Sri Soolini Durga Sahasranama Archana (chanting the 1008 names of Sri.Soolini Durga) with Kumkum and a special Aaraathi is performed. On every Poornima day a grand offering of food, called as “Padaiyal” is offered. All can participate in these special poojas. You can obtain lamp, wick and mustard oil from the temple itself by paying donation. We often perform Havan for Sri.Soolini Durga. You can also participate in this Maha Havan; you can obtain the best result in all. Those who are having the problems with the planets Saturn should pray to this Sri.Soolini Durga. By praying her they can easily pacify the problems caused by the planet Saturn. This is not the one and only problem solved by her. Sleepless Nights, bad dreams, evil spirits’ troubles, black magic, evil dhrustis, jaadoo and voodoo problems, marriage related problems, court cases, bankruptcy, medical malpractice and a lot many of problems which are not included in this list. Limits of the Mind

Ekalavya was a little boy, born in a poor family, many many years ago. His people lived a little away from Hastinapura, the capital of the Kuru kings. They used to clean other people's dirt for a profession.

And for this reason they were shunned by society. Ekalavya and other kids of his group knew they too had to follow their parents' professions. 

Their parents often told them, "You are not meant to go to school. What use is school for carrying garbage which is your only job?" 

"Don't go near those people; they are high born, we are low born." 

 Ekalavya didn't understand. 

"Why, but why?" he asked his mother. She replied "God set these limits." 

"God! Why would God want nice things for them and dirty things for us? Hasn't God made all of us?" Ekalavya asked. 

She sighed, "Darling I don't know, but there are bounds we cannot cross, this is God's rule." 

Ekalavya became quiet. From that day the only important thing for him was to understand the meaning of "limit". You know, kids (and grown ups) are sometimes cruel. One day Ekalavya and his friends trapped a little ant and were watching it try to escape. The ant tried and tried till it found a little opening at the edge of the trap and escaped. 

Other children moved to trap it again but Ekalavya stopped them shouting, "The brave ant has broken the bounds. Limits are meant to be broken. I am free, free". One day, Ekalavya saw beautiful chariots come into the forest near his village. He saw boys of his age get out of the chariot one by one. What lovely clothes they wore! 

Last, an old man with snowy white hair and spotless white clothes came out looking stern and calm. The boys seemed a little scared of the old man but with one dusky handsome boy, the old man's behaviour was different, he smiled and patted this boy on the head. Ekalavya heard his father's voice, "Come away boy, there is work to do. Those are the Kuru princes, with their teacher Drona. The boy he just patted is his favourite, Arjuna. They have come to practice 'archery'. Don't go near them." 

"Father, all I want is a pat from the grand old man." so saying, Eklavya ran towards the old man Drona. 

By then the boys had started shooting with bows and arrows. What amazing things Arjuna did! He could shoot at a target with his eyes shut. He could shoot with his left hand as well as the right. And the teacher Drona? His arrows made fire, chased things in circles, brought rain and lightning. It was magical. Arjuna's eyes never left his teacher. It was like he wanted to absorb every bit of Drona. And you could see that Drona too was very proud of Arjuna. 

The practice ended. Ekalavya went up to Drona and with folded hands said, "Great sir, please teach me". 

"I don't teach the low-born," was the cold reply as Drona turned away. 

"Master, your arrows don't seem to mind any limits, they bring rain and fire, they bring night and day. How then can you be bound by stupid thoughts of high and low birth?" With this Ekalavya walked away from the glaring Drona. The next day, Ekalavya carved a statue of Drona on a tree trunk with a knife. He made himself a bow and arrows. Each day he would bow before the statue, practise shooting and imagine a pat on his back from Drona. 

Some months passed. The grand princes and their master came to the forest again. As Arjuna reached to take aim of a particularly difficult target, an arrow reached Arjuna's target before he could even aim. Shocked the boys and their teacher looked around. They saw Ekalavya, who went up to touch Drona's feet. "Who is your teacher?" Drona asked. Ekalavya quietly led him to the statue. Drona looked at it for some time and said, "If I am your Guru, give me my fee, my guru dakshina". 

"Ask, sir", bowed Ekalavya. "I want your right thumb," replied the stone hearted Drona. Without the right thumb to support it, how can any archer ever hold a bow?As Arjuna and the other princes watched in shock, Ekalavya wordlessly cut off his right thumb and laid it at Drona's feet. Many years passed. A great war was on in Kurukshetra between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, cousins who were related. Arjuna was on the side of the Pandavas. His teacher Drona, and many of his cousins, who had been Drona's students with him, were on the other side. 

After the day's battle, a sad Drona was sitting in his camp. Suddenly, like a respectful prayer, arrows fell near his feet one after another. He looked up and who do you think he saw? 

Why, Ekalavya ! The young Ekalavya said, "Master I have learned to shoot without my right thumb. I have learned to shoot with my left hand, and with my feet. I have taught others and raised an army. Today I'm known as a great archer." Drona was speechless. 

"Master, I set your greatness free from the limits of your own mind. I made it my teacher in the form of your statue. Your great love for Arjuna crossed the bounds of fairness when you asked for my thumb. You thought that it would finish me as an archer. But great masters always end up teaching something. By asking for my thumb, you made me learn to shoot with both hands and feet. And for this lesson, I offer my services to you in this war." 

Drona's eyes filled with tears. He answered, "Yes, it is true, bounds and limits are in the mind. Real courage is fighting against wrong limits and respecting the correct ones. Ekalavya, you have taught me this."

VEDIC ASTROLOGY

I usually say,” One should be blessed before he blesses others”. The Lord Shiva has blessed me a lot. That why I am able to lead a happy comfortable life and solve the problems. Atharva Vedic Astrology is entirely different from the regular astrology practiced by the Jyothish around the world. Some of them are not even able to pay their monthly bills properly and some of them are having many health related problems. But the so called jyothish say,” come to me. I will change your life within one particular time and solve all your problems for a very nominal charge of $11 to $51. I have only one question for them. If they are able to change the living style of others for a very nominal amount of $11 to $51, why they don’t use that same power and make their own life a comfortable one? Nobody has the correct answer for this question. It is understood that their ultimate motto is only to take away the hard-earned money of the public.Thatswhy they are not able to establish themselves properly. Now let me explain about the “Yogams”.

Nipuna Yogam

 As previously mentioned Lord Sun is the king or group leader of the planets. If he sits along with Lord Mercury, it is called as Nipuna Yogam. This is one of the best yogams to get. If anybody has this yogam in the horoscope, it is definite that the person will be a graduate. If the previously mentioned two planets combine with Lord Saturn, there are two chances of this yogam. One, the person will be holding multiple degrees and the other; the person will not even complete his high school. Why these kind of change in the combination of the same planets? Saturn is enemy to Sun. If the Sun sits in his own house or sits in exalted position, his power will be more. If Sun sits in the enemies’ house or in a debilitated position, he is powerless. However, the planets combined with him will be more powerful. than him. Therefore, the result will be opposite.  Many parents will be much worried to see their kids in a poor condition of studies. In this situation, they have to consult a Vedic Astrologer to analyze the problems. The Vedic Astrologer uses the horoscope as a tool and finds out the reasons for the problems. He uses the “Thantras” to alter the evil benefits to good benefits. The prayer to the Atharva Yaksha and Yakshini devathas are called as rituals. By performing the rituals in a proper way, we can have the best results

 Gaja Kesari Yogam

If Guru (Jupiter) is positioned in the 4th, 7th or 10th place from Chandra (Moon) or associated in the 1st house, it is called Gajakesari Yogam.This Yogam will award fame, long life and riches in life.

Chandra Mangala Yogam

Association of Chandra (Moon) and Sevvai (Angarakan - Mars) in one house, is called Chandra Mangala Yogam.  This will render accumulation of land and building, fame and riches. In some instances, this may result in mental instability also. If the Chandra is in enemy’s house this will cause mental instability. If the Mars is in enemy’s house or in debilitated position, there is a fair chance of getting blood related diseases.

Athi Yogam

If Guru (Jupiter), Budhan (Mercury) and Sukran (Venus) are positioned in the sixth, seventh & eighth houses from Chandra, either separately or together, it is called Athi Yogam.  Persons with this Yogam will hold high positions in Government, Police or Armed Forces. This will also give a lot of wealth, fame and recognition in the society. {The same principles will apply to Lagna and to the Rasi (the position of Moon)}

Ashta Lakshmi Yogam

If Raahu is positioned in the 6th place from Lagna while Guru is positioned in 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house; it is called Ashta Lakshmi Yogam.  Life will be filled with all kind of wealth, pleasures and happiness.

Vipareetha Raja Yogam

If the Lords of the 6th, 8th and 12th houses are positioned either together or independently in the 6th, 8th or 12th houses, it is called Vipareetha Rajayogam.    Even if the incumbent is poor, he / she shall become rich in an unexpected moment.

Neecha Banga Rajayogam

If a Graha is debilitated in a house and if the Lord Graha of the house where it debilitated is in his own ruling house or in its exalted house, it is called Neecha Banga Rajayogam.  In such a condition, the Neecha Graha will render all the benefits and comforts by virtue of its Raajayogam

Dharma Karmathipathy Yogam

If the Lord Grahas of 9th and 10th houses are in parivarthana, or associated in the same house or aspects each other; it is called Dharma Karmathipathy Yogam.   This will render fame and riches.

Rusaka Yogam

If Sevvai (Angarakan - Mars) is positioned in first, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th or 10th house and if the house he is positioned is his ruling house or exalted house, it is called
Rusaka Yogam.  This will render might, victory against enemies, wealth, fame etc.

Bathra Yogam

If Budhan (Mercury) is in his ruling or exalted houses and if that house is the Kendra Sthanam to Lagna or Chandran, it is called Bathra Yogam. This will render eloquence, wealth and riches, dignified appearance etc.

Vesi Yogam

if there is any Graha in the second house to Sooriyan, except Chandran, Raahu and Kethu, it is called Vesi Yogam.  This will render riches and victories. If the same is in the horoscope of a female it is sure that, the woman will have sexual relationship more than one male. Therefore, it is not good for a female to have this yogam in the horoscope.

Sagada Yogam

If Guru is positioned in the 8th or 12th place from Chandran, it is called Sagada Yogam.  This yogam will render instability, sufferings and uncertainty in the livelihood.  Sufferings will almost be a part of life to the incumbent.

Khemathuruma Yogam

if there is no Graha in the 12th and 2nd houses to Chandran, it is called Khemathuruma Yogam.  This will render all sufferings and strains in life and make life a miserable experience.

“Akkanda saamraajya yogam”.

 It means if the grahas related to second, 9Th. Alternatively, 11 Th. House gets supreme power in the Horoscope and the Guru (Jupiter) stands in the “kendrams” or 5th. Alternatively, 10 Th. House, the concerned person gets long living, good wealth, health, excellent name, and fame.

 Vasumathi Yogam .

 If the “SUBA- GRAHAS” sits in the UBA –SAYA HOUSES, THAT IS @ 3, 6, 10, 11 Th. HOUSES, THE CONCERNED PERSON WOULD GET VEY BIG JOB SETTLEMENT, TREMENDOUS wealth and health conditions.

KAALA- SARPPA YOGAM.

 If the Lagna and all the Grahas comes inside between Raaghu and Kethu, the above Yogam applies. The concerned person has to undergo the toughest life and he/ she has to develop only by very hard work. 

 The next part is CHANDRA YOGAMS (MOON YOGAMS/ BENEFITS). Let me explain a few of those yogams.

DHRU-DOORAA YOGAM’.

It means, If you have other Grahas immediately prior and after to the Moon / Chandra in the Raasi except surya (sun) Raaghu and Kethu. It means the concerned person would get excellent wealth, automotive, good character Etc.,

ANABAA YOGAM

 It means if any Grahas in the 12 Th. House from the Raasi that is from the Moon (Chandra), except Raaghu and Kethu. This Yogam gives excellent and great Name and Fame, very good health conditions.

SUNABAA YOGAM. . If any body has any Grahas in the second house from the Moon except surya, raaghu, and kethu. This implies that, the concerned person would make very good money and wealth by hard work, would be having excellent brainpower, and excellent knowledge and wisdom.

 Lord Krishna’s ideas on “how to get the best wisdom or knowledge”. According to the thoughts of great saints like Sri.Sankaracharya, Sri.Ramanuja and Sri Madhwacharya Lord Krishna is not only the reincarnation of Lord Mahavishnu. But he is considered as the wisest. Great scholars like Sri.Rajaji and Dr.S.Radhakrishnan considered Lord Krishna as the best statesman. I am not a scholar like them. But with the blessings of Almighty I wish to discuss a little bit about the ”Gnana Yoga”, the fourth chapter of Bhagavat Geetha. 

Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna, how to get great knowledge, wisdom and mental courage to face the situations. Arjuna was facing the worst situation of facing his cousin brothers, teachers and other close relatives in the battle field. Lord Krishna sat as the driver of Arjuna’s chariot and explained him to face the situations.Instaed of writing as an essay I give this in the form of questions and answers.

 The Blessed Lord said: I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of humankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku. This supreme science was thus received through the chain of disciple succession, and the saintly kings understood it in that way. However, in course of time, the succession was broken, and therefore the science as it is appears to be lost. That very ancient science of the relationship with the Supreme is today told by me to you because you are my devotee as well as my friend; therefore you can understand the transcendental mystery of this science. 

 Arjuna said: The sun-god Vivasvan is senior by birth to you. How am I to understand that in the beginning you instructed this science to him? 

 The Blessed Lord said: Many, many births both you and I have passed. I can remember all of them, but you cannot, because you are mortal and I am immortal. Although I am unborn and my transcendental body never deteriorates, and although I am the Lord of all sentient beings, I still appear in every millennium in my original transcendental form. Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice and a predominant rise of irreligion--at that time I descend myself. In order to deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I advent myself millennium after millennium. 

 

One who knows the transcendental nature of my appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains my eternal abode. Being freed from attachment, fear and anger, being fully absorbed in Me and taking refuge in Me, many, many persons in the past became purified by knowledge of Me and thus they all attained transcendental love for Me. All of them as they surrender unto me I reward accordingly. Everyone follows my path in all respects. Men in this world desire success in furtive activities, and therefore they worship the demigods. Quickly, of course, men get results from furtive work in this world. 

 According to the three modes of material nature and the work ascribed to them, the four divisions of human society were created by me. And, although I am the creator of this system, you should know that I am yet the non-doer, being unchangeable. There is no work that affects Me; nor do I aspire for the fruits of action. One who understands this truth about me also does not become entangled in the furtive reactions of work. 

 All the liberated souls in ancient times acted with this understanding and so attained liberation. Therefore, as the ancients, you should perform your duty in this divine consciousness. Even the intelligent are bewildered in determining what is action and what is inaction. Now I shall explain to you what action is, knowing which you shall be liberated from all sins. The intricacies of action are very hard to understand. Therefore one should know properly what action is, what forbidden action is, and what inaction is. 

 One, who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is intelligent among men, and he is in the transcendental position, although engaged in all sorts of activities. One is understood to be in full knowledge whose every act is devoid of desire for sense gratification. He is said by sages to be a worker whose furtive action is burnt up by the fire of perfect knowledge. Abandoning all attachment to the results of his activities, ever satisfied and independent, he performs no furtive action, although engaged in all kinds of undertakings. 

 Such a man of understanding acts with mind and intelligence perfectly controlled, gives up all sense of proprietorship over his possessions and acts only for the bare necessities of life. Thus working, he is not affected by sinful reactions. He who is satisfied with gain which comes of its own accord, who is free from duality and does not envy, who is steady both in success and failure, is never entangled, although performing actions. 

 The work of a man who is unattached to the modes of material nature and who is fully situated in transcendental knowledge merges entirely into transcendence. 

 A person who is fully absorbed in Lord Krishna’s teachings and follows it is sure to attain the spiritual kingdom because of his full contribution to spiritual activities, in which the consummation is absolute and that which is offered is of the same spiritual nature. Some yogis perfectly worship the demigods by offering different sacrifices to them, and some of them offer sacrifices in the fire of the Supreme Brahman. Some of them sacrifice the hearing process and the senses in the fire of the controlled mind, and others sacrifice the objects of the senses, such as sound, in the fire of sacrifice. 

 Those who are interested in self-realization, in terms of mind and sense control, offer the functions of all the senses, as well as the vital force [breath], as oblations into the fire of the controlled mind. 

 There are others who, enlightened by sacrificing their material possessions in severe austerities, take strict vows and practice the yoga of eightfold mysticism, and others study the Vedas for the advancement of transcendental knowledge. And there are even others who are inclined to the process of breath restraint to remain in trance, and they practice stopping the movement of the outgoing breath into the incoming, and incoming breath into the outgoing, and thus at last remain in trance, stopping all breathing. Some of them, curtailing the eating process, offer the outgoing breath into itself, as a sacrifice. 

 All these performers who know the meaning of sacrifice become cleansed of sinful reaction, and, having tasted the nectar of the remnants of such sacrifice, they go to the supreme eternal atmosphere. Dear Arjuna, without sacrifice one can never live happily on this planet or in this life: what then of the next? All these different types of sacrifice are approved by the Vedas, and all of them are born of different types of work. Knowing them as such, you will become liberated. 

Dear Arjuna, you are very wonderful and brave person. 

Do not fear on the situations. Their karma is like that. You are used only as a weapon or some sort of machinery by the karma or destiny. The sacrifice of knowledge is greater than the sacrifice of material possessions. So, dear Arjuna, after all, the sacrifice of work culminates in transcendental knowledge. Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized soul can impart knowledge unto you because he has seen the truth. 

 And when you have thus learned the truth, you will know that all living beings are but part of me--and that they are in me, and are mine. Even if you are considered to be the most sinful of all sinners, when you are situated in the boat of transcendental knowledge, you will be able to cross over the ocean of miseries. As the blazing fire turns firewood to ashes, O Arjuna, so does the fire of knowledge burn to ashes all reactions to material activities. 

 In this world, there is nothing as sublime and pure as transcendental knowledge. Such knowledge is the mature fruit of all mysticism. And one who has achieved this enjoys the self with himself in due course of time. A faithful man who is absorbed in transcendental knowledge and who subdues his senses quickly attains the supreme spiritual peace. 

 But ignorant and faithless persons who doubt the revealed scriptures do not attain God consciousness. For the doubting soul there is happiness neither in this world nor in the next. Therefore, one who has renounced the fruits of his action, whose doubts are destroyed by transcendental knowledge, and who is situated firmly in the self, is not bound by works, O conqueror of riches. Therefore the doubts which have arisen in your heart out of ignorance should be slashed by the weapon of knowledge. 

Armed with yoga, stand and fight. There is no use in simply going through the writings of great scholars. But one should try to adopt at least a few points of the teachings of great scholars. By adopting these methods, we can live in a wonderful world. That wonderful world will be free from all kinds of egos, jealous and other unwanted fights.

These are the tips if followed will lead to sudden financial gains and your success quotient in gaining the wealth will get increased.

1. Every morning offer red flowers and milk made sweet to Yakshini Soolini Ma or Raja Mathangi  on her initiated Yantra . Distribute the same amongst family members.

HAPPY MARRIAGE - AN ATHARVA VEDIC ASTROLOGICAL STUDY

MARRIAGE is an institution with varied association. In Hinduism and in the Catholic religion at least, marriage is taken to be an indissoluble and sacred institution. To these faiths, marriages are literally made in heaven. In some countries marriage is a contract and it is therefore capable of being dissolved. Even where the law of divorce is found on the statute book, some countries like the United Kingdom do not allow a divorce as far as the royal family is concerned. When we turn to astrology, we only know that marriages are largely governed by planetary dispositions. We do not think that astrology would sanction divorce or oppose it, since astrology is neither a legislature nor a judge. Astrology only enables us to make a marriage happy or otherwise.

Since the zodiac begins with Aries (Mesha). The natural seventh is Libra (Tula). The main indicators of marriage are Libra and its lord, as far as men are concerned. The seventh from Libra being Aries, the chief indicators of marriage for a woman are Aries and Mars. In a woman's chart, the Moon too must be taken into consideration since the menstrual period is regulated by Moon and Mars; and in a man's nativity Sun too must be examined carefully.

In a man's chart, we have to consider Libra and the 7th from the ascendant, Sun and Venus; and in a woman's we must note Aries and the seventh from the ascendant, Moon and Mars. The eighth houses from these govern the sex life; and therefore Scorpio for the men and Taurus for women has to be added to the list. Then the extra marital life is determined by the twelfth house from the ascendant; and in a man's chart, Pisces too need scrutiny while in a woman's Virgo too deserves a study. This might terrify one since all the houses and planets appear to get into the picture. But what is needed is to findout the strongest among the ascendant, Sun and Venus in a man's chart, and among the ascendant Moon and Mars in a woman's. The major scrutiny should be from this point only. The others are needed as corroborating or strengthening aids only.

An affliction to a planet or house arises from a conjunction with or an aspect by a planet that is a malefic by nature or by ownership or by both. If a conjunction with or an aspect by a benefic also operates, then we get mixed character of the house or planet.

A strong, well-placed and unaffiliated Venus gives a harmonious and balanced marital life of man. A similar Mars governs the balanced sex life of a woman. These are the two basic planets. Venus is to be examined with the Sun, and Mars with the Moon. The position of Venus in a male chart is to be compared with that of Mars in the wife's chart; and a similar comparison between the Sun in the Husband's chart and the Moon in the wife's is necessary. Whether they aspect one another, they are in square or trine to one another, or they are inimical to one another must be carefully noted. The next step is to see whether the Navamsa chart of the wife agrees with the Rasi chart of the husband, and whether the Rasi chart of the wife agrees with the Navamsa chart of the husband. These preliminary observations will be taken up for a scrutiny and a later stage. Now we have to consider the possible effects resulting from certain positions of the planets. In the following, he means and includes she also.

The Sun in the seventh indicates a successful marriage; and in the eighth a successful interest in the affairs where the strongest feelings are involved and in matters of sex. The moon in the seventh makes one change his attitude frequently towards those intimately related to him; and he hopes the marriage partner to be motherly. The eighth house position stimulates these interests. Mercury in the seventh can either advance or related reciprocity of feelings and emotions; and in the eighth he affects the emotions roused by others. Venus in the seventh is a very good indication of happy marriage and of the ability to live with others in peace and happiness. If this Venus is afflicted, there may be disappointment in this direction. In the eighth Venus secures a balanced sex life if it is not afflicted. Mars in the seventh makes one forceful in intimate relationships. If afflicted, it might bring about irritation and quarrels. In the eighth it makes sex life very important for the native. The seventh house Jupiter is very good for marriage life. In the eight it brings prosperity through marriage. Saturn in the seventh brings about frustration and disappointment in marriage, if it is afflicted. In the eighth, it makes one serious in matters concerning sex.

Rani Samyukta

               Samyukta was the daughter of the king of Kananj. She was the most beautiful princess in India. Prithivi Raja was the king of Delhi. He wanted to marry her. He knew that it would not be easy to marry her because her father was his enemy. He always liked to do what was not easy to do. Therefore, he decided to try. First, he sought out her old nurse. She was living not far from the place. He touched her feet with his fore head and asked her advice. The old woman loved prithivi Raja very dearly. So she promised to help him.

              “Give me”, she said “that picture of yours which the great painter at Delhi has painted on ivory in green and gold. I will tell you when I came again from my journey”. The old nurse went a long journey and reached the gate of the palace of Kananj. She expressed her desire to see the queen. Now it happened that moment, the queen wanted a new waiting woman for the princess. So the old woman was asked to look after the house hold work. Samyuktha had a true heart. As the old woman brushed her hair or sat with her on the roof on the still, hot nights, she told her the tales of Prithivi Raja and of his love for Samyukta. She showed Samyukta his picture painted on ivory in green and gold. As she looked on his face, her heart desired to meet the king who loved her.

                Presently the king of Kananj said, “It is time for the “Swayamvara”, that is the choosing of her husband by the princess. He sent his messengers to all parts of India to call the princes of India to the great choosing. However, he sent no message to his enemy Prithivi Raja, the king of Delhi. Nevertheless the king of Delhi came to the choosing. Prithivi Raja and his friend came to the swayamvara disguised as minstrels.

               The courtyard of the palace was gay and ready for the “Swayamvara” Garlands of roses and jasmine were hung from the pillars. The king and the Queen sat on golden throne on a marble balcony. The thrones of the princes, who sought the hand of Samyukta, were just below the balcony.

              The princes were dressed in jewels and clothes of gold. Each prince had his men at arms and heralds. The musicians sat on the watchtower at the gate. PrithiviRaja, the great prince, sat with the musicians.

              When the bugles sounded, Samyukta came from the inner courtyard. She wore a sari that flowed about her like golden water. There were golden anklets on her feet and golden bracelets on her arms. Her eyes were on the ground as she walked. She held lightly the garland of fresh jasmine. She would place the garland on the neck of the prince whom she would choose to be her husband.

              When she reached the outer courtyard, she raised her eyes and saw a wooden figure of Prithivi Raja standing in the place of the king’s doorkeeper. She knew well that her father had done this thing to hurt Prithivi Raja, the true knight of her heart. Her choice was made now proudly she walked one prince after another. She passed on silently. She remembered the great tales of Prithivi Raja told by the heralds.

             There was but one prince left. He was sitting near the door keeper. All were anxious to know what she would do. The king and the queen leaned out of their marble balcony. All the crowd watched her breathlessly. To their surprise, Samyukta also rejected the last prince. She turned to the wooden image of PrithiviRaja who had no invitation to the great choosing and placed the garland on its neck. She had indeed kept the garland for her true knight alone.

 

           The king and all princes rose in wrath. There was a clash of steel. For this insult, Samyukta would now be bound in chains and sent to the deepest dungeon of the place. But love was quicker than wrath. PrithiviRaja who was disguised as minstrel mounted on the king’s swiftest charger, which was at samyukta’s side. He stooped and lifted her to his saddle and rode away to the gates of Delhi.

SIGNIFICANC OF TEMPLE WORSHIP

Our country abounds in Punya Kshetras ( Holy Temples ) and Punya Teerthas ( Holy Bathing Places ). The Temples and Theerthas are places where sages of old dedicated their spiritual powers ( Tapas ), so that erring mortals who are incapable of observing the austerities and who are susceptible to sins may be purified and blessed when they make pilgrimages to these temples or bathe in the Theerthas.

Our sculpture, music, dance, mantras and every aspect of our culture are dedicated to the Gods in the Temple and so the temples have become the repository of all that is best in our heritage. We have our history also from the inscriptions in the temples. The ancient monarchs, great devotees as they were, took pride in raising Temples for Gods and not residential palaces for themselves as proved by the fact that while most of the palaces are now either dilapidated or uninhabited, the grand temple edifices stand in glory even to this day. If our religion has survived many vicissitudes in the past, it is because of our temples and the festivals associated with them. Though schools, hospitals, banks and other social organizations may be necessary in the context or present times, these institutions cannot serve their respective purposes, in the absence of sacrifice and devotion. The one cure for all human ills is the power to endure them with faith in God’s Grace.

Bhakthi ( devotion ) alone can give the power of endurance. Temples are the agencies for the cultivation of Bhakthi. Hence the need and obligation to build and maintain temples in every place. What is the significance of making offerings to the idols installed in temples ? This is done as an expression of gratitude to the Power that created all things. We will be guilty of gross ingratitude if we do not offer first to God what we eat or wear.

It is not every one can do Pooja ( worship ) at home and make offerings to God. Offerings are made to God in the temples on behalf of the entire community. At least once a week we should go round the temples, reciting Nama Japasms and doing Bhajans. By doing so, we will derive real and lasting peace of mind. It is the offering of the objects of the five fold joys that is known as Panchopacharas to God namesly Gandha ( Sandal Paste ), Pushpa ( flowers ), Dhoopa (  Incense ), Deepa ( Lamps ) and Naivedya ( Food ). There are also  Shodosopacharas ( 16 offerings ) and Chatur Shasthi Upacharas ( 64 offerings ). All these upacharas come within the ambit of the rituals of worship.

It may be asked, why all these elaborate rituals ? will not silent prayer do ? The answer is that a true devotee acknowledge the ultimate source and the inner substance of these objects of his enjoyment and uses them only after tendering them to that source in humble gratitude. Only the best and purest should be offered to God and this will ensure that every man will seek and take delight only in such things that are fit to be offered to God. This will make our lives perfect and pure.

The lesson that we have to draw from all these forms of worship at the temples is that we should do our duty and enjoy the right things in the world, placing the entire responsibility for our not being lured by them, on God. This is not a philosophy of inaction or idleness. It is a philosophy of action with the emphasis on the dedication of our action and enjoyment to God Almighty.

SAPTASHATI PRAYOGA

Sri Durga Saptashati is a hymn of limitless power which can grant both aihika and AmuShmika saukhya to the upAsaka. As per  the sUtra kalu chaNDIvinAyakau, recitation of Sri Durga Saptashati is kShipra phalakAri in Kali Yuga. The following prayogas are listed here solely for lokopakAra,         the same purpose with which Bhagavan AdinAtha has revealed these in the scriptures. As these fall under the category of kAmya prayogas, special care has to be taken when resorting to them and undertaking any of these is permitted only when specifically instructed by Sadguru. One who is duly initiated into navAkSharI mantra and performs vaidika and tAntrika nitya, naimittika karmas, such an upAsaka alone is eligible to perform these prayogas. However, without the Siddhi of navArNa mantra, the prayogas do not give results, as hinted by shrI bhAskararAya in his commentary, guptavatI. For kShipra siddhi of the mantra, i.e. mUla and mAlA in this case, one should understand well the anga vidyas. Skanda Yamala details dwAdasha angas for navAkShari, starting with bhuvaneshwari, till kAlikA. The RishyAdayaH for these are nandA, shAkambharI etc. and each of these represent one chapter of Saptashati. This further illustrates the close association of navArNa mantra with Saptashati and also of the anga vidyas. The diversification of AdyA into three, six, nine and twelve fold shakti samUha is described well in Saptashati, the significance and practical details of which are imparted during the krama dIkshA of shrIkula. The Angas for Saptashati itself are considered to be either six or twelve. Kavacha, Argala, Kilaka and Rahasya Traya form the six. With mAlA mantra, hR^idaya, dhvaja and sUkta traya added, the count becomes twelve. One of the two schemes is generally adopted based on Guru SampradAya.

All of the following prayogas should be preceded with the dasha nyAsas of navAkSharI, aShTottara sahasra japa of navArNa with purottarAnga mantras [dashAmsha] and a complete recitation of Saptashati with all the angas.

nishAmaya tadutpattiM vistarAdgadato mama ||

mahAmAyAnubhAvena yathA manvantarAdhipaH |

sa babhUva mahAbhAgaH sAvarNistanayo raveH ||

svArochiShe.antare pUrvaM chaitrava.nshasamudbhavaH |

suratho nAma rAjAbhUtsamaste kShitimaNDale ||

By reciting the above three mantras, one is blessed with progeny. One should perform the AvAhana of Parameshwari with santAna durgA mantra in a Kumbha filled with pancha gavya or salila and offer trimadhura as naivedya. The kumbha should be energized by reciting the mula mantra, santAna durgA mantra and the above three mantras 108 times. The water or pancha gavya should then be consumed by the lady desirous of attaining progeny. When this procedure is followed for pakSha traya, garbha doShas are cleared and conception becomes successful. Once the lady is pregnant, to protect the foetus, puruSha sUkta homa, recitation of harivamsha purANa and nAga pratiShTha are advised.

nidrAM bhagavatIM viShNoratulAM tejasaH prabhuH ||

By reciting the above mantra, one is freed from diseases and apa mr^ityu. One should write mR^ita sanjIvini yantra on butter, recite the mantra and then eat the butter till the disease is cured. Based on the severity of the diseases, the rogi or his representative should recite the mantra 300, 1008 or 10,000 times everyday. Trimadhura should be offered to Parameshwari as Naivedya. As an alternate prayoga, a salila kumbha is placed in the centre of aShTadaLa padma and avAhana of parameshwari is done in the Kumbha as per navAksharI kalpa. The abhimantraNa of the water is done 108 times with mUla mantra, 108 times with mR^itasanjIvinI mantra [kAlikA para] and with the mantra vishveshwarIm 12 times. The water is then sprinkled on a child suffering with bAlagrahAdi doShas. This procedure is to be repeated for three evenings. The same water energized as above can be sprinkled during nights on those suffering with problems such as bed-wetting, svapna doSha, mala or mUtrotsarjana during sleep, bad dreams etc. The procedure is to be repeated for seven nights.

balAdAkR^iShya mohAya mahAmAyA prayachchhati ||

tayA visR^ijyate vishvaM jagadetachcharAcharam |

saiShA prasannA varadA nR^iNAM bhavati muktaye ||

sA vidyA paramA mukterhetubhUtA sanAtanI |

samsArabandhahetushcha saiva sarveshvareshvarI ||

The above three mantras are recited before rAja darshana i.e. before visiting higher officials etc. for kArya siddhi. One should perform AvAhana of Parameshwari with Svayamvara Kalyani mantra in a dIpa or a bimba, worship with lotuses and offer 108 Ahutis with svayamvarA mantra using apArmarga samit [rough chaff]. The homa bhasma is mixed with gorochana and agaru and energized by reciting the above three mantras 108 times. When this tilaka is applied on the forehead, the higher officials co-operate with the upAsaka and act in his favor.

One should write vAgvAdinI yantra on butter, perform avAhana of Parameshwari with vAgvAdinI mantra and worship with trimadura naivedya. Then, the butter should be energized by reciting vAgvAdini, navArNa and the above mantras 108 times, followed by the complete recitation of the prathama adhyAya. The butter is then consumed before noon by the one desirous of obtaining speech, oratory skills, poetry, music etc. This process is to be repeated for 48 days. A re-ordered recitation of Saptashati is prescribed for those bothered by evil spirits. Such upAsakas should recite the chapters of Saptashati in the following order, while touching Bhasma. By wearing this Bhasma on the forehead, the evil spirits are destroyed.Instantaneously. The order of the chapters in this case would be: 1 to 10, 4, 11, 2, 3, 4, 11, 4 to 11, 4 to 11. Even incurable fevers are cured by reciting Saptashati in the following order of chapters: 1, 4, 11, 2 to 11, 5 to 10, 4, 11, 1 to 13. If this procedure is performed thrice for three Sandhyas, Siddhis are obtained by the upAsaka.Prayogas and Karmas based on Dina, Masa, Rashi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Rtu etc. .
